Beatrice V. "Betty" Niklos  -  87

Beatrice “Betty” Violet Niklos (Dorsch) 87, of Elk Grove Village, died March 8th at the Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights. Betty was born June 11, 1929 to Frank and Mary Dorsch (Coy), in Chicago, Illinois. She is a 1947 graduate of Lake View High School and studied at the Moody Bible Institute. Betty went on to work her entire career for the Dettmer’s Building Supply Co. as book keeper and office manager. Betty was the beloved wife of the late John C. Niklo (1991), whom she married in 1955. Both accomplished artists, gardeners and avid travelers, they remained by each others side until John’s death in 1991. Betty was a life long member of Galilee Baptist Church in Chicago, where she devoted herself to running the Sunday School Program and served as the church pianist. Her desire to serve her parish and the Lord was boundless and she found great joy in doing so. Betty is preceded in death by her loving parents and husband, and is survived by her cousin Jane Dwyer of Elgin and the many family members and friends who love her and remember her endless energy, her signature raspberry Jell-O mold. Friends and Family will gather on Tuesday, April 11th, from 6:00 p.m. until the time of Memorial Service at 7:00 p.m. at Grove Memorial Chapel. Private burial at Elmwood Cemetery in River Grove.

Kathleen A. Dyson, 64, nee Foley, of Elk Grove Village, formerly of Chicago. Loving wife to the late Philip for over 32 years. Cherished daughter of the late James & Margaret. Loving cousin and good friend to many. Kathy faced her numerous health issues with strength and perseverance. Kathy enjoyed movies, music, summer concerts and she loved to travel. Kathy had a sweet & gentle manner and liked talking on the phone and socializing. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to American Diabetes Assn & Foundation for the Blind. Anthony P. Calderaro, 73, of Elk Grove Village for 38 yrs. passed away April 1, 2017. He was a Vietnam Army veteran; a loving family man and die-hard Cubs fan. Anthony was the beloved husband of Linda J. (nee Kirchoff) for 47 yrs.; loving father of Brian (Christy) Calderaro; and cherished papa of Camille, Gina, and Guy. A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 6, from 3 to 9 p.m. at Grove Memorial Chapel, 1199 S. Arlington Hts. Rd., Elk Grove Village with a chapel service on Friday, April 7, at 10:45 a.m. Interment will follow at Ridgewood Memorial Park in Des Plaines.

Lynn R. Wintz (nee Parnell), 72, a resident of St. Charles and formerly of Elk Grove Village for 63 years. Lynn passed away on April 3, 2017. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Leon; brother Lyle (Dolores); children Lisa (Steve) Szymanski, Lora (Jason Briski), and Lane (Cheree); as well as granddaughter Kaitlyn and step grandchildren Steven and Stephanie. Throughout her life, Lynn worked, among other places, at Jarosch Bakery as a counter clerk and Ridge Elementary School as a lunch mom, retiring from JCPenney Furniture Warehouse after many years in inventory and bookkeeping. At home, she was known as a expert baker (she leaves behind her famous chocolate chip cookie recipe), an avid animal lover, a Scotch drinker (no bottle left behind) and an expert swearer with a wry wit (split equally between her three children). She will be missed. Visitation Saturday April 8 from 3-9pm with a 7pm chapel service at Grove Memorial Chapel.

Carol E. Kroger (nee Miranda), 78, of Elk Grove Village for 49 years passed away on April 2, 2017. Carol was the loving mother of John (Erin) Kroger, Elizabeth (Joel) Tringali, Ann (Vel) Vetri, and Mercedes (William) Vala; dear sister of Charlotte (Donald) Girolamo, and Maryellen (Gary) Krawchuk; and cherished grandmother of 11. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, April 6, at 10 a.m. at Queen of the Rosary Church, 750 W. Elk Grove Blvd., Elk Grove Village. Interment will be private. Services provided by Grove Memorial Chapel.

Joan M. Kortge  -  68

Joan M. Kortge of Elk Grove Village passed away suddenly at her home on March 16th at age 68. Joan dedicated much of her time to several condo association boards as Treasurer after retiring from United Airlines as a Computer Technician. Joan was born in Bartlesville Oklahoma, the oldest of five children of Eulan and Clara Lou (Clapper) Kortge. She attended Mary Queen of Heaven elementary school and graduated from York High School both in Elmhurst. Joan enjoyed swimming from an early age including spending many years as a lifeguard and swim instructor. She was also an active volunteer with the America Red Cross for most of her life. In her spare time, she thoroughly enjoyed knitting, crocheting and cross stitch. Joan was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving family members are her siblings, Patricia (Gerald) Glenn of Grand Haven Mich., Donald (Linda) Kortge of Pingree Grove, Kenneth (Kathleen) Kortge of Grayslake and Karen (Richard) Schmid of Glen Ellyn. Also surviving Joan are nine nieces and nephews. A Visitation will be held on April 1st from 1 to 4pm at Grove Memorial Chapel, 1199 S. Arlington Heights Rd, Elk Grove Village. A private burial of the cremains will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Palatine. In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to the American Red Cross at www.redcross.org.

Theron "Fred" R. Jordan, 89, of Elk Grove Village passed away March 28, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Fred was born on April 27, 1927 to Uba and Roy Jordan in a farm house near McConnell, IL; attended classes at Northwestern Univ., and was a member of the Elk Grove High Booster Club for over 20 years where he served as past president and treasurer and was instrumental in starting many musical programs, pizza concerts, and craft shows. He also volunteered at the Sheila Ray Senior Center in Elk Grove. Fred worked in banking for 50 years. He was the beloved husband of Doris M. (nee Stephan) whom he married in Beloit, WI. on October 6, 1951; loving father of Michael (Debi), Stephanie, Beth (Kevin) Kroll, Luanne (Rob) Juberg, Donna (Ken) Stratton, Derek (Diane), and Andrew (Belinda); dear grandfather of Colleen, Melissa, Drew (Gena), Christopher, Lindsay, Jordan; and cherished great-grandfather of Felicity, Harrison, and Charlie Berkley. A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 30, from 3 to 9 P.M. at Grove Memorial Chapel. Chapel prayers Friday at 9:30 A.M., proceeding to Queen of the Rosary Church for 10 A.M. Mass. Interment at St. Michael Cemetery in Palatine. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Sheila Ray Senior Center, appreciated.

Thomas Allen Blazek, 62 of Elk Grove Village passed away in his home on March 20th, 2017. Tom is survived by his son from his first marriage, Douglas Glen Blazek of Roselle, Il. and preceded in death by his loving wife Michele Johnson Blazek and his mother Jeanne Miller Blazek. Other survivors include his father, Donald Allen Blazek of Springfield, MO, sister Barbara Dresser and her husband Jim of Waukesha, Wi; sister Mary Inmon and her husband Tim of Republic, MO; sister Linda Blazek of Springfield, MO; brother Paul Blazek and his wife Cheryl of Branson, MO and brother Joseph Blazek of Branson, Mo. Tom was a long time resident of Elk Grove Village, graduating from Elk Grove High School in 1972 and spent most of his life here. His hobbies included motorcycles, billiards and firearms. He had 40 years of service as a mechanic for Lindahl Bros. Excavating in Bensenville, IL. Tom left his job last year to care for his wife Michele as her illness progressed and spent as much time as possible with her before she passed, leaving him a broken man. Memorial visitation to be held on April 7th, 2017 from 3:00 - 9:00 p.m. with chapel service at 7:00 p.m.at Grove Memorial Chapel, 1199 S. Arlington Heights Road, Elk Grove Village, IL  60007. Joseph S. Puzzo, 89, a resident of Schaumburg, formerly of Huntley, passed away on March 27, 2017 at Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights. Joseph was the lifelong beloved husband of Margaret M. (nee Canzoneri) for 70 years; the loving father of Jaqueline (Terrence) Bieze, Joseph Puzzo, and the late Leo C. Puzzo (1981); the dear grandfather of Nicholas, Vincent (Rachel), Anthony (Lisa), Patrick, Leo, Andrea (Michael), Benjamin, and Joseph; and the cherished great grandfather of Dominic, Olivia, and Bruce. Joseph is also survived by his devoted brother Michael (Joan) Puzzo. A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 30th from 9 A.M. until the time of service at 11 A.M. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at St. Joseph cemetery in River Grove.
